Clinical Lipidology Subspecialty
Subspecialties are specialty areas not considered primary areas of advanced practice nursing. Students in all programs can add these subspecialties if they are pursuing any appropriate area of advanced practice nursing.
The Clinical Lipidology subspecialization will allow graduates to provide culturally competent care to patients and families with complex dyslipidemia. Graduates will implement the most current evidence based practice in the clinical setting. Advanced practice nurses with clinical lipidology education work within their communities to provide health promotion and disease prevention strategies such as education and screening. Graduates who complete this subspecialty will meet the educational requirements to sit for the Clinical Lipid Specialist exam offered by the Accreditation Council for Clinical Lipidology. A practice requirement is also needed to sit for the exam. These requirements should be reviewed.
Clinical Lipidology - Students can add these 8 credit hours to Adult-Gerontological Primary Care NP, Adult-Gerontological Acute Care NP, Adult- Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist, Dual Role Family NP/Adult Gerontological Acute Care NP, Dual Role Family NP/Emergency NP, Family NP, Women’s Health NP, and Post-Graduate Certificate Emergency NP.

Students currently in a graduate program may add a subspecialty to their current schedule without applying for admission to that subspecialty. Students should contact their advisor for assistance with a new curriculum schedule.
Prospective students who only want to return to complete a Post Graduate Certificate subspecialty are required to contact the graduate advisor for the MSN program and complete the appropriate admission requirements.
