Biomedical Sciences (BS) Major Guide

The Biomedical Sciences program offers a unique opportunity for students interested in health-related careers such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, optometry, public health, physician assistant studies, biomedical research, and occupational or physical therapy. Because the curriculum focuses on human systems, students with a B.S. in Biomedical Sciences have the distinct advantage of having basic medical sciences classes, which are usually only offered at the post baccalaureate level; these courses prepare students with a solid background for health professions or graduate school, or for baccalaureate entry-level health related jobs such as in the pharmaceutical industry or government.

Emergency Medical Services (BS) Major Guide

The Department of EMS Education offers the Bachelor of Science degree in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) for students interested in a career in pre-hospital medicine and EMS management. As the field of EMS continues to grow and change, leaders and educators with a background in emergency medicine are needed to help shape the future of pre-hospital medicine and healthcare. This program is designed to prepare students for the clinical and administrative challenges of a career in Emergency Medical Services and healthcare in the 21st century.

Professional Health Sciences - Healthcare Management (BS) Major Guide

The Department of EMS Education offers the Bachelor of Science degree in Professional Health Sciences for those students who want to have a well-rounded background in health sciences, but do not wish to pursue a specific professional degree. The program provides broad information in both health related disciplines as well as health informatics and/or management. Graduates from this program should be suited to work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, health insurance companies, and physicians’ offices; as well as becoming pharmaceutical reps, medical supply reps, hospital managers’ assistants, and more. They could also pursue an MPA or MBA and go into hospital administration and many other fields.

Radiologic Sciences (BS) Major Guide

Radiographers perform imaging examinations and work closely with radiologists, who interpret medical images to diagnose or rule out disease or injury; radiation therapists provide radiation treatments to cancer patients. The radiologic sciences program at South offers general diagnostic radiography, specialized imagining (ultrasound, vascular radiography, CT, MRI, and mammography), radiation therapy, and radiology administration. The program is fully accredited by The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology.

Speech and Hearing Sciences (BS) Major Guide

Speech pathologists evaluate, treat, and prevent disorders in speech, language, fluency, voice, and swallowing; audiologists identify, evaluate, and manage hearing, balance, and auditory processing disorders. The Department offers a Bachelor of Science in Speech & Hearing Sciences that prepares students for entry into any of the three graduate degrees offered through the department.
