Writing Across the Curriculum
The Writing Across the Curriculum program seeks to help students improve their writing skills within their academic discipline. To achieve this goal, all students are required to take two writing-intensive courses to graduate, and one must be in their major.
The basic premise of the WAC program is to foster skills such as critical thinking and reading, developing rhetorical strategies, conducting scholarly research, and writing within the conventions of a particular discipline. Writing-intensive courses ideally combine all of these elements to help students learn through writing.
The Writing Across the Curriculum program is administered by the University Writing Committee, which approves courses to be designated as writing-intensive ("W") and trains faculty to design and teach these courses.
