Job Description:
The Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences (DOCS) at Louisiana State University (LSU) seeks an Assistant Professor of Marine Ecology. Candidates for this position should have an academic background in marine ecology, including, but not limited to: fisheries ecology, conservation ecology, behavioral ecology, community and ecosystem level processes, and related fields. Candidates who conduct research related to spatial management, coastal, estuarine, or marine trophic dynamics at spatial scales ranging from estuaries to the deep ocean are encouraged to apply.

This position is part of an exciting multi tenure-track position hire within DOCS consisting of five new faculty hires with an expected start date of Fall 2026.

Job Responsibilities:

50% - Teach graduate and undergraduate courses; advise students; serve on student thesis committees.

40% - Develop and maintain a rigorous, externally funded and independent research program; mentor graduate students and postdocs; publish journal articles, reports, books, conference proceedings etc.

10% - Provide service/advice to the University, professional organizations, and local, state and federal agencies

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D in Biological Sciences, Ecology, Fisheries, Marine Sciences, Oceanography, Earth Sciences, or a closely related field.

The Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences (DOCS) at Louisiana State University (LSU) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Stable Isotope Geochemistry at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. We seek a broadly trained geochemist, ecologist, or biologist who uses stable isotopes in marine and wetland sciences and complements the interdisciplinary focus of our program. While candidates from all sub-disciplines of isotope geochemistry are encouraged to apply, those with expertise in the use of isotopes in coastal and wetland environments, specifically in tracking ecological and biogeochemical processes to inform research in ecology, oceanography, fisheries, and climate science, are especially encouraged to apply. Substantial infrastructure for stable isotope ratios mass spectroscopy is currently available in the department.

We are particularly interested in candidates who specialize in biogeochemistry, or spatial, trophic or microbial ecology or related field using any combination of field methods, laboratory experiments, remote sensing, and modeling.
