Discover Early Childhood Education

Early childhood educators make a profound impact on children’s lives. The first years of life create the foundation for a child’s health, emotional well being, and intellectual growth. Providing high-quality early care and education is critically important to enable children to learn and ensure that they reach their full potential.

Our Early Childhood Education programs are designed to provide in-depth knowledge of child development, childhood learning, and teaching skills for young children ages four through eight. All programs lead to Alabama teaching certification in Early Childhood Education, which is a requirement for those intending to work in grades PreK-3 in public elementary schools.

▼   National Board Certification Elective Course
The University of South Alabama is offering a new graduate-level elective course for National Board Certification support. Three years of teaching experience is required to register as a National Board candidate. However, teachers can enroll in this elective course at any time to prepare for the process. The course is three credit hours and split into two eight-week terms to provide ample time for students to be familiar with the process of becoming a National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT).
