Chair’s Message

Christopher E. Keel, D.O., F.A.C.S.

Greetings,

Thank you for your interest in the Department of Urology at the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine at the University of South Alabama. Our department is the only group of urologists in the area that provides comprehensive urologic care for all conditions, from infant to elderly. Together, our seven faculty members have more than 100 years of experience, and we are proud of our commitment to providing excellent care for the Gulf Coast.

As part of the region’s only academic health system, we provide the most advanced and expert care to our patients. Our department, through our partnership with the Mitchell Cancer Institute, provides the highest-level care for all urologic cancers, such as bladder, kidney, and prostate cancer; this partnership drives a robust robotics and minimally invasive program, including the first and busiest single-port (SP) da Vinci platform on the upper Gulf Coast.

Our commitment to our academic mission means we are continually researching new techniques and treatments to further enhance our patients' care. Our training program is a five-year ACGME-accredited program accepting one resident per year. Residents will receive a broad range of experience rotating on our Urologic Oncology Service, GU Benign Service, Female Urology, and Pediatric Urology Service.

All domains of urology are strongly supported, and our residents will be ready for fellowship or independent practice upon graduation. They also will join the ranks of a very mature graduate medical education program that has trained thousands of surgeons and physicians from almost every specialty.

Please feel free to contact us with any questions!

For department and residency questions, contact Sandi Shaw-Cantrelle, program coordinator, at Sshaw-cantrelle@health.southalabama.edu or 251-660-5874. For clinical care issues and appointments, call 251-660-5930.

Thanks again for your interest!

Sincerely,

Christopher E. Keel, D.O., F.A.C.S.
