Hannah Moreland, MDHannah Moreland, M.D.

Hometown: Lexington, South Carolina

College: Clemson University

Medical school: University of South Carolina School of Medicine - Columbia

Bio: I graduated from Clemson University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Bioengineering. I became involved in cardiovascular and CKD research, and developed an interest in medical device development. In addition to several publications, I developed a prototype for a novel pelvic organ prolapse mesh to reduce mesh-related complications. I attended the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, graduating in 2022. After deciding on urology as my future specialty, I completed a urologic research and quality improvement fellowship with Prisma Health after my third year of medical school. In 2020, I won the American Urological Association Earl Nation Retrospectroscope award for my abstract presentation and paper on the ancient practice of collecting genitals as trophies of war. I have since authored and presented multiple abstracts at the AUA annual meeting, World Congress of Endourology, and the ACS Quality and Safety conference. In 2022, I matched as a preliminary resident into the General Surgery residency and eventually became the first urology resident at USA Health.

What do you like about Mobile? Mobile is an easy place to live and has everything that you need to be a successful resident! It has quickly become my new home.

What do you like about the residency? Helping to build a new residency program is an amazing opportunity. We have the best and most supportive faculty members who have become my second family. We have a large surgical volume and autonomy that will benefit us as we progress through our training.

Hobbies: Reading, eating dinner with my friends, Netflix, playing with my cat, Butterbutt

Fun fact: I once ate 14 Krispy Kreme donuts in one sitting.

Kevin Parham, M.D.Kevin Parham, M.D.

Hometown: Durham, North Carolina

College: University of North Carolina

Medical school: Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine

Bio: I am from Durham, North Carolina, and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2018 with a double major in Health Policy & Management and Asian Studies. I worked as a technical solutions engineer at Epic before moving to Richmond, Virginia, for medical school, where I was a representative for my class on the curriculum council and helped pioneer a program for students to engage in global health work called ACCESS. I am currently interested in pursuing a career in reconstructive urology or infertility.

What do you like about Mobile? Mobile is a very relaxed and easygoing place to live with charming historic districts and a vibrant cultural scene, highlighted especially by the Mardi Gras season. The views of the Mobile Bay waterfront are stunning, and the proximity to so many scenic coastal areas provides ample opportunities for relaxing by the beach or exploring nature reserves.

What do you like about the residency? The surgical experience. We prioritize hands-on experience and operative skills from the very beginning, and this level of autonomy has far exceeded my expectations. The close bonds I've formed with faculty and fellow residents make our program feel like a tight-knit family, supporting each other through every challenge. It's awesome being part of a new residency program here because we get to shape it from the ground up, bringing fresh ideas and making a real impact on how we train and work together.

Hobbies: Backpacking, UNC basketball, any activity in, at, or around the water

Fun fact: I’ve visited 24 national parks and counting!

Favorite OR music: An eclectic mix of tropical house, synth-pop, psychedelic funk, country

Christian Manganti, M.D.Christian Manganti, M.D.

Hometown: Gulfport, Mississippi

College: University of South Alabama

Medical school: Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine

Bio: I was born and raised a military kid in Gulfport, Mississippi. When the time came for college, I picked the University of South Alabama out of a desire to remain close and knowing its affiliation with a respectable health system. At USA, I was the Board of Trustees scholar for the Class of 2020 and a graduate of the Honors College. After falling in love with this institution, I stayed for medical school, where I was awarded a Dean’s Merit Scholarship and elected to our chapters of the Gold Humanism Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha. Now that I have the privilege of staying for residency, I’m more than happy to join the family. I have a strong passion for mentorship and teaching, so please don’t hesitate to reach out to the department and ask for me if you have any questions or need anything.

What do you like about Mobile? Although the city has a rich history, it is always in a state of progress. Every time I turn around, there’s something new being built or added, but we still have all the old traditional charms. I particularly love Mardi Gras, when the city is most alive.

What do you like about the residency? I love the emphasis on autonomy. We are consistently able to push our comfort level, and I love being given opportunities to learn proactively with the support of a fantastic faculty. We are also very eager to grow!

Hobbies: Cooking, woodworking, antiquing, retail therapy

Fun fact: When I was in first grade, I lost at the spelling bee for misspelling “doctor” (I said “d-o-c-t-e-r” as fast and confidently as possible, then utter shock and horror).

Favorite OR music: Female rappers
