Program Educational Objectives and Student Outcomes
BSChE Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)
The educational objectives of the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering’s
undergraduate program are that, within a few years of program completion, graduates
will have used the knowledge and skills gained through academic preparation and post-graduation
experience so they have:
PEO 1
Advanced in the chemical engineering profession and applied engineering knowledge
and problem-solving skills to multi-disciplinary projects.
PEO 2
Incorporated economic, environmental, social, regulatory, constructability, safety,
and sustainability considerations into the practice of chemical engineering.
PEO 3
Exhibited effective communication skills, teamwork, leadership, initiative, growth
and innovation, project management, and professional and ethical behavior.
PEO 4
Continued their technical and professional development, which may include graduate
level education, continuing education, and participation in professional organizations.
BSChE Student Outcomes
Graduates of the Chemical Engineering Program at the University of South Alabama will have:
- an ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
- an ability to apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
- an ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences
- an ability to recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
- an ability to function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
- an ability to develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
- an ability to acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
