Mitchell College of Business Internships
The business internship program provides an opportunity for students planning careers in business to participate in their chosen field prior to graduation. Internships are offered to all qualifying students in the Mitchell College of Business. Three credit hours are required for graduation from the college.
In order to qualify for the internship credit you must meet the following requirements:
- A declared major in one of the business disciplines
- Cumulative GPA of 2.0
- Must have junior or senior status

How do I find an internship?
Through workshops, events, specialized programming, and advising, the MCOB Office of Experiential Learning is dedicated to assisting MCOB students in all phases of the internship search. Below are some suggestions for getting started:
- Have your resume reviewed by the Career Center or the Coordinator for Experiential Learning
- Contact the MCOB’s Coordinator for Experiential Learning, Jessica Franks, JD at jfranks@southalabama.edu
- Visit Handshake
- Visit the Career Center
- Attend a career fair
- Check your email often for the MCOB’s Internship Newsletter
- Check the Rise Boards
- Use networking skills to explore possible opportunities. Remember to speak with family, friends, former employers, etc

After the chair approves your internship, you will be released to register for the course
- You must be a declared major in one of the business disciplines
- Cumulative GPA of 2.0
- Must have junior or senior status
- Accounting Major? Must have completed ACC 314 or 372 with a minimum grade of C
- Finance Major? Must have completed 315 with a minimum grade of D
- Students cannot register for 496 on their own.
- Students must:
- Complete the Experiential Learning Application.
- Have your sponsoring organization complete the employer section of the application.
- Submit the TYPED completed application to your department chair.
- Once your department chair approves your internship, you will receive an override for 496, after which you will be able to register for the class.
