Biography
Danny Alford is proud to be joining the University of South Alabama faculty as the Assistant Professor of Trombone. Prior to this position, Alford was a performer and educator based in Lexington, Kentucky where he served as interim adjunct professor of trombone at Eastern Kentucky University. Alford also worked as a low brass technician at several area high schools and has given masterclasses at the University of Kentucky. He additionally has served as faculty instructor and low brass technician at summer festivals including Varna International Music Academy, and several area high school marching band camps in Kentucky and Georgia.
Alford is a versatile musician who has performed extensively as an orchestral, chamber, and solo artist. As an orchestral musician, Alford has performed with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and the Spartanburg Philharmonic. He has also worked as a freelance musician performing in chamber ensembles across Kentucky, Georgia, South Carolina, and Connecticut, and has performed with various brass and orchestral festivals in Greece, the Czech Republic, Inner Mongolia, China, and throughout the United States. In addition to his orchestral and chamber work, Alford has been a featured soloist with several ensembles including UGA’s British Brass Band, Trombone Choir, and the Bulldog Brass Quintet. As a soloist, he premiered his commissioned piece for trombone and fixed media, Daniel Karcher’s Atanos Enobmort, at the 2024 International Trombone Festival. He has also been a semi-finalist and finalist for trombone positions with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra, the West Point Band, and the Naval Academy Band.
Alford holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Trombone Performance from the University of Georgia, a Master’s in Music Performance from Yale University, and a Bachelor’s in Music Education from the University of Kentucky. His primary teachers include Dr. Josh Bynum, Scott Hartman, and Brad Kerns, respectively.
