Summer Camps

The Center for Forensics, Information Technology, and Security (CFITS) is hosting summer camps for highly motivated students interested in computing and technology. Participants will have the opportunity to explore various aspects of computing, including programming, software development, cybersecurity, and more. Through hands-on activities, projects, and interactive sessions, students will gain practical skills and insights into the world of computing. Students don't need any prior experience with computers or programming. The camps are open to students ranging from 4th grade through 12th grade. Participants should have a curiosity for technology and a willingness to learn through hands-on exploration and experimentation. All camps are non-residential and will be held in the School of Computing in Shelby Hall on the University of South Alabama camps.

PACK – Programming + Computer Knowledge Camp

The Programming and Computer Knowledge (PACK) Camp at the School of Computing of the University of South Alabama is an introduction to programming concepts. Its hands-on exercises allow students to gain experience with problem-solving by using a high-level programming language, Python, and other programming tools.

We must have a minimum of 10 participants for each camp. You will be notified if that threshold has been met within one week before the start of the campus. The deadline to apply will be one week before the start of the camp. The cost for these camps is $200.

Camp 1 - June 10th - 14th

Age Range: Rising 10th - 12th grade
Times: 8:00 am - 11:30 am

Camp 2 - June 24th - 28th

Age Range: Rising 7th - 9th grade
Times: 8:00 am - 11:30 am

Camp 3 - July 8th - 12th

Age Range: Rising 4th - 6th grade
Times: 8:00 am - 10:00 am

CYBER Camp – June 20th and 21st

The Cyber Camp at the School of Computing of the University of South Alabama is a two-day introduction to various cybersecurity-related topics using hands-on exercises. It is designed for high-school students and will cover topics such as cryptography, steganography, digital logic, password safety, phishing awareness, and cyber ethics.

The deadline for applying is June 7th, 2024. A minimum of 10 participants for the camp is required to host the event. You will be notified if you are selected within one week after the deadline. The cost is $150.
