Postdoctoral Research Associate

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of South Alabama invites applications for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate to support research on Space Science and Engineering. The researcher will work on substorm identification methodologies employing physics modeling coupled with Artificial Intelligence techniques.

The position is immediately available. The position consists of a one-year appointment with the possibility of reappointment based on performance and funding availability.

Job Description

70% - Research 
Conduct research, analyze, and interpret data associated with conducted research.           

Supervise graduate and undergraduate students with their research.

Prepare manuscripts for submission to top-tier journals and present seminars to scientific community

30% - Reporting and Dissemination of Research

Prepare and present updates on ongoing research to the research team and sponsors.

Provide written reports on research progress.

Prepare manuscripts for submission to top-tier journals.

Assist in the preparation of research proposals.

Qualifications

A PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required.  

Familiarity with AI methodologies including machine and deep learning approaches for time-series analysis or anomaly detection.

The successful candidate should bring experience, enthusiasm and dedication to the group.  It is expected that successful candidate will have a proven record of publications in top-tier physics and/or engineering research conferences, and have expertise in one or more of the above areas of interest.  Highly qualified candidates with any of the following experience are particularly encouraged to apply: Space Physics, Space Weather, Electromagnetics.

Familiarity with IC Design EDA/CAD tool is required.

The successful candidate should bring experience, enthusiasm and dedication to the group.  

It is expected that successful candidate will have a proven record of publications in top-tier computer engineering research conferences, and have expertise in one or more of the above areas of interest.  

It is desirable if the applicant has experience with full tape-out experience of ASICs.

Job Description:
The Department of Civil, Coastal, & Environmental Engineering at the University of South Alabama invites applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher position for in the area of Small Community/Decentralized Wastewater Systems.  The postdoctoral scholar will work on a multi-university team funded by the prestigious Columbia World Projects endowment looking to evaluate and demonstrate decentralized wastewater models (financial, technological, management entity, etc.) for small/rural community viability.    The project is also looking to develop data and tools that allow an exploration of the financial and technical applicability of decentralized wastewater collection/treatment/reuse systems as a function of scale. We see this as the direction for the future in both rural and urban environments. The candidate of interest would have skills in decentralized wastewater system technologies, network optimization, financial analysis, smart systems, sensors & control, and be adept in spatio-temporal data analytics.  We are seeking an independent researcher with good communication skills (to interact with academic partners and local communities) and an ability to work on a highly collaborative team.
